Sarah & Chris - "Enjoy every minute of the planning and the big day, you miss it so much after it’s over"

Date: 10th July
Venue: Howies Restaurant, Edinburgh

After meeting while on a night out in Edinburgh back in 2006 Chris proposed to Sarah while the couple were on a romantic wintery holiday in the Lake District, and popped the question while they stood beside a beautiful frozen lake.

Many grooms prefer to take a bit of a back seat when it comes to the wedding plans but Chris was more than happy to get involved with organising the big day. “Chris was my biggest help in planning the day,” says Sarah. “He stayed really calm and helped me organise a lot of it, which is probably quite unusual for a groom!” The couple’s wedding preparations went smoothly with only one small hiccup in the planning process, “Our red wine didn’t show up for the big day, which could have been disastrous!” Sarah laughs. “But the venue went to a big effort to sort wine for us at short notice, which was great.”

With so much to do before the ceremony, tensions are often running high and lots of brides find that they feel nervous and jittery, “I was surprisingly calm before the ceremony but I started to feel nervous when I was just about to walk down the aisle, although Chris was a lot more nervous than me!”

Although planning the wedding of your dreams can be stressful it is also a lot of fun and will provide you with memories you will keep forever. Keep on top of the little details and try to write everything down. “I would advise anyone who is organising their own wedding to just to enjoy every single minute of the planning and the big day, because you miss it so much after it’s over,”

The Cake...
Sarah and Chris went for an unconventional wedding cake in red, white and black icing decorated with stripes and polka dots.

The Venue...
Sarah and Chris decided to have both their wedding ceremony and their reception in Howies restaurant in Edinburgh, the city where they met in back in 2006.

The Flowers...

Wow... that Dress!
Sarah chose a vintage dress that had belonged to a countess in the 1950s that was
bought from a sale of house antiques in Edinburgh.
